The National Stock and Bond Show started in 2002 by Bob and Judy Schell in a small old hotel in the northern Virginia Suburbs of Washington DC. This hotel has long since been torn down and has been replaced by expensive condos. The first hotel did not have a restaurant so Bob and Judy brought in free Virginia ham dinners for all of the out of town guests in the evening and pizza for lunch. Many of the original 17 dealers still attend the show. Bob started the show to provide a low cost alternative for scripophily dealers to conduct business in a convenient location. The first year table cost was only $30.
After a few years of shows at the Marriott and Doubletree with only acceptable conditions we moved the show to the Dulles Airport Crowne Plaza Hotel in Herndon, Virginia. This hotel has proved to be far superior with an elegant well lit ballroom for the show, excellent accomodations, and a super location.
